What is Show Week?

 

Show Week refers to the week of a full company production. This process is essential to prepare students for their performances.

During Show Week, students work with their teachers and our technical team to rehearse the production in the performance space. This allows students to become comfortable with the stage, lighting, sound, costumes, props, entrances, exits, and other technical elements before opening night.

​

Because Show Week is when all of these elements come together, attendance is mandatory for participating students.

Specific dates and times will be provided to families before each production.

What Are Theatre Blacks?

 

You may hear your student's instructor ask them to bring or wear theatre blacks.

Theatre blacks are a standard base outfit used during rehearsals and productions. Students should have:

• A completely black top, preferably long-sleeved

• Completely black bottoms

• Black shoes

Theatre blacks are used as the base for many student costumes and allow our staff to easily build costumes and make adjustments as needed.

We recommend keeping a set of theatre blacks available throughout the year so your child is prepared for rehearsals, performances, and special events.

What Should I Pack in a Theatre Bag?

 

During full company rehearsals, Show Week, and performances, students should bring a theatre bag with the items they may need throughout the day.

We recommend packing:

• A refillable water bottle

• A snack

• Hairbrush or comb

• Deodorant

• Theatre blacks

• A quiet activity for breaks

• Any required costumes, shoes, or personal items communicated by the instructor.

What should my child wear to regular classes?

Students should come to class in comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely. For dance and musical theatre classes, students should wear appropriate footwear and clothing that allows instructors to safely teach movement and choreography. Specific costume or clothing requirements will be communicated before performances.

Does my child need previous experience to join?

No! Many of our classes are open to students of all experience levels. Each class description provides information about the recommended age, experience level, and focus of the program. If you are unsure which class is the best fit for your child, our staff would be happy to help.

Can my child join a class after the program year has started?

Yes! Registration remains open throughout the year as long as space is available. However, students joining later in the year may have missed material covered earlier in the session, particularly when preparing for a production. Their involvement in upcoming performances may therefore be adjusted.

What happens if my child misses a rehearsal?

Please notify the instructor or InterAction as soon as possible if your child will be absent. Missing rehearsals can make it difficult for students to learn choreography, blocking, music, and other production elements. Frequent absences may affect a student's involvement in a production.

Are parents allowed to watch classes?

To help create a comfortable, focused, and independent learning environment for our students, parents and guardians are not permitted to observe regular classes. This allows students to fully participate, build confidence, and engage with their instructors and classmates without distractions.

Parents and guardians are welcome to see their child's progress through showcases, coffee houses, productions, and other performance opportunities throughout the year.

Will my child have a speaking or singing part in the full company show?

Full company productions are ensemble experiences, and roles and performance opportunities are determined based on the needs of each production, the student's age, experience, and the material. While we aim to provide meaningful opportunities for students to participate, we cannot guarantee a specific role or amount of stage time.

Are costumes included?

Costume requirements vary depending on the production. Families may be asked to provide basic clothing items or personal pieces, while other costume elements may be provided by InterAction. Specific requirements will be communicated before the show.

How will I receive important information?

Important updates about classes, rehearsals, productions, cancellations, costumes, and events will be communicated through email and/or our designated communication channels. Families are responsible for checking these communications regularly.
